Hi,
I have problems to get Petrel grids to ArcGIS. The export function in Petrel produces Zmap+grids (ASCII) but I can not import them with the "ascii to raster" tool from the Arctoolbox. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks a lot

The exported grid looks e.g. like the following:

!
! ZIMS FILE NAME : new grid
! FORMATTED FILE CREATION DATE: 03/04/2002
! FORMATTED FILE CREATION TIME: 15:48

Message Eva,
Could you not simply reformat the header to look something like this:

ncols 5149
nrows 5083
xllcorner -5.8168803689929
yllcorner 50.558952285964
cellsize 0.00083333333333333
NODATA_value -9999
74 74 74 74 73 73 73 73 76 78 83 88 .........
80 79 78 77 75 75 75 75 74 74 75 82 .........

"ASCII to Raster" should read it fine then.

Message Hi,

problem is solved:
I found a very good tool, that allows easily to get e.g. surfaces from Petrel to ArcGIS. Grids need to be exported as Zmap+grid(ASCII)(*.*) from Petrel and imported with the freeware "frog tech tool". http://gis.frogtech.com.au
hopefully this is a help for others as well
