Message We have tons of maps created in mapinfo, now we want to read those maps into ArcGIS, but we could not open them directly from ArcGIS. I tried to export some files into dbf files, but only dbf table can be exported. Is there a way to export the mapinfo map into shapefiles, so that we can open the maps in ArcGIS?
Thank you for helps. Very appreciated.

Message I don't think you can import a MapInfo map directly. You can export the layers out of MapInfo into shape files and then bring them into ArcGIS. Shapefiles are open source, so almost any GIS will be able to export to shapefiles. MapInfo data files are proprietary and cannot be directly read by ArcGIS UNLESS a) they are in MIF formate or b)you have the Data Interoperability Extension running.

Message Thank you for your answer. As you said, it is impossible to open the MapInfo file directly from ArcGIS. I exported the MapInfo files to .MIF file, then use the Conversion Tool in ArcCatalog to convert the files into shapefiles.

Message I do remember a while back there was a company that was selling an extension that would bring map info map files directly into ArcMap. You may have to search around a bit on google but I am sure someone has already done that since ESRI is trying to make more inroads on the business geography side.
