Message	I have two layers that I am doing the same basic things to (import table, export certain records, import table, create to shapefile, attach symbology via .lyr). However, one layer shows fine but the other one has issues. If I zoom to the layer on the "Selected Store" layer it shows up. If I slowly start to zoom in on it then I can no longer see it. The other layers look fine including the one I am doing the same things to. I really don't understand what is going on. I am provinding the source from the layers properties box. Any help would be appreciated.

Message	We had a similar issue a few days ago. Exporting the shapefile and displaying again did the trick for us, although we still don't know what caused the shapefile not to display at particular scales. Also, make sure there are no blank spaces in the shapefile name, including the path. Although Windows supports long names and blanks one never knows whether all the other software products that you are using are fully backward compatible. Excel, for instance, will import the dbf table of a shapefile without complaining, but will truncate the name of a table saved or exported in dbf format to 8 characters.

Message	Sometimes rebuilding the spatial index will solve this as well.

Message	How do I rebuild the spatial index? I have tried removing it and bringing it back in but that has not worked. It is just one point but when I zoom to layer it zoom all of the way out to a view of the entire US. I don't understand this.

Message	ArcGIS desktop help, index, "spatial index" In ArcCatalog, right click on the shapefile and open its properties. Switch to the Indexes tab. If a spatial index is already defined you can delete (and then add it) or update it. Melita

Message	The shapefile did have a spatial index and I was able to reproduce the problem. I deleted the spatial index, and the problem went away. I then added the spatial index back, and can still zoom in with no problems. Both the .sbn and .sbx files were updated. The .sbn file is a lot smaller after rebuilding the index so that may have been the problem. I'm attaching a zip file with the updated shapefile. I was very surprised to see that the store was a Lazarus at Easton! I'm from Columbus originally. Melita

Message	Hi! I have a similar problem with my point shapefile and I have already did what was instructed. Do you have any idea what's making the shapefile spatial index corrupt? I'm just plotting (using the functions provided in MapEditing sample) a point or two when it was corrupted. Though it works fine after deleting and creating a new spatial index, it's tiresome to rebuild it over and over again. Can it be rebuild programatically or do you have any means of preventing the spatial index from being corrupted? Thanks!
