Message	I have run in to this on a few occasions and it is particularly annoying, I was wondering if I might be missing something. I have a polygon shapefile with ~20 poylgons spaced some distance apart (so as to not interfere with each other). If I add the shapefile to a new empty map and turn the labels on (doesn't matter which of the populated fields I choose), some of them do not display the labels. I can find no setting on the Properties sheet that will force Arc to label these last few polygons. I have run ShapeChk, and tried various export/import/append/merge combinations to try to rebuild the file and restore proper functionality but to no avail. Short of adding labels through annotation, does anybody have any ideas? I am using ArcEditor 9.2 and have tried it in both SP3 and SP4 with no difference. Thanks, JELo

Message	Hi, Not really sure. The only time that I have seen ArcMap not label is when they are interfering with one another. As a test, could you try using a definition query on each polygon. Try each polygon and see if they will label without the others visible. Or, you could try export each polygon out, adding all 20 polygons to the Table of Contents and see if they will label individually. It isn't really a solution, just something to perhaps isolate what the problem is. James

Message	Hmmm . . . tried all of what you suggest and still no labels on those few. Bizarre! Even if I export just one of the problematic polygons to its own shapefile and load it into a brand new empty map by itself, label will not show. Going to have to think on this one a bit more. Message	There might be a geometry error with a few of the polygons. Try repairing the geometry of your shapefile (ArcToolbox --> Data Management Tools --> Features --> Repair Geometry).

Message	Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!! - You got it. I don't understand where geometry errors could come from but that was it. The tool found errors with each of the polygons that would not show their respective label and after running the tool, all did. This wasn't a shapefile I created but one that was given to me so I don't know the history - apparently there may be some issues with its source. I will definitely remember that trick for future situations. Thanks again, JELo
