Message	I'm trying to calculate z values(elevations)for a point shapefile from a DEM. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Message	There is a tool in arc toolbox called Extract Values to Points (SA) that will work for this.

Message	Unfortunately I don't have access to Spatial Analyst, so I'm trying to use a work around using 3D Analyst. I going about it using the below article: http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=knowledgebase.techarticles.articleShow&d=22597 However, when I convert a 2D shapefile to a 3D shapefile it produces a new shapefile with an empty database, no features are present.

Message	There's a free tool called XToolsPro... You take your shape file into ArcScene and create the 3D Feature like normal with the desired Raster to give your elevations. Then take your new 3D Feature back into ArcMap... In XToolsPro go to Table Operations/Add XYZ Coordinates... A window will appear in the layers section make sure your Shape file that was converted to 3D is active, take the checks out of Add X coordinate and Add Y coordinate. Add Z Coordinate and Only for 3D Shapes should be selected.... Hit OK and open the attribute table for your Shape...Your Z values will be present
