Message There are two different transformations available for WGS72 to WGS84 in ArcGIS.

WGS1972_To_WGS1984_1
WGS1972_To_WGS1984_2

The difference is in scale .2263 and .219

Can some one give the background to this.

I have a shapefile in WGS72 co-ordinate system and I would like to convert them to WGS84. Which transformation I should choose?

Thanks.

Message These two transformations are so close, you shouldn't see much difference between the two results. The latest NGA (formerly NIMA) documentation uses a simplified version of these transformations to calculate the shifts in seconds. From what I can see, this simplified version completely omits the scale difference value.
