Subject How to draw shapes(lines, points, polygons) and save it as layer in ArcMap?

Message Does anybody know how to draw lines, points and polygons and save it as layer, like in ArcView3.x? I know in ArcView it's feasible to draw some shapes in a empty view and then copy and paste them in a new theme. How to make the same operation in ArcMap? Any comments are welcome! Many thanks!

Message In ArcGIS, basicaly you have to follow these steps:
- Open ArcCatalog and create an empty layer
- Open ArcMap and add the empty layer
- Add the Editor Toolbar and click on Start Editing
- Start drawing the shapes
- Don't forget at the end to click on Stop Edit and save the Edits.

I hope this will answer your question

Message Hello Wassim, in ArcCatalog it's no way to creat a new empty layer,if you new a layer then you have to choose a data source for that. You mean to creat a new shape and drag it to ArcMap, right?

Message Hello Again,

I meant by layer any of Shapfile/Coverage/Geodatabase. Check the attached image to see where you can create it.

And yes, after you create the shapfile, you can drag and drop it in ArcMap
