Message Is there a common method for "converting" many 7.5' quadrangle coverages from ngvd29 to navd88?
Coverages are hypsography contours, stream/lakes, and DEMs.

Message Not in ArcInfo. ArcInfo workstation doesn't support vertical datum transformations yet. Neither does ArcGIS.

The method you want to use is VERTCON, so you will want to either implement it yourself or find software or a tool that includes it. VERTCON uses a bilinear interpolation of a file that includes an array of z shifts. You can find out more about VERTCON at

http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/TOOLS/Vertcon/vertcon.html

It looks like this tool may be able to convert DEMs using VERTCON:
