Message I am currently dual booting between Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro, but I rarely if at all use Windows 2000 any more. My computer has a 1.4 Ghz AMD Athlon processor, 512 megs of RAM and 2 40G hard drives. Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.

Message Thanks for the link but unfortunately I can't even get to the step where I would try to run the program because I can't even get the program to install on my computer. I keep getting the Error 1327 Invalid Drive message. Any help with trying to get around or understand this message would be greatly appreciated.

Message I can't find anything internally here concerning this error.

However, ArcGIS install uses the Micosoft installer program (msi) and I went to MS support site and searched '1327'. There are some logged issues that sound similar w/OTHER ms installed programs, so not sure if it's the correct path to follow, but maybe worth a shot. Obviously, if you can get a sys admin's help that would be best.

Finally, you might want to consider contacting ESRI install team in technical support for some help.

(if that link doesn't work, just go to Microsoft's search site and search 1327)

Message Well I followed your advice and it turns out that the problem was one stupid registry key that was pointing to drive E. For anyone in the future with this problem... run regedit and go to...
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Personal
and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Personal
and check to make sure that all the references are to the correct drives.

Message I was having the same problem with SDE 9.1 sp1. Dave's solution of editting the registry keys was the only solution that worked for me.

Thanks Dave!

Message I have found the required location in the regedit function, but I'm not sure what to do with it. There don't appear to be any values to change, and obviously, I'm not too familiar with the registry. This problem only just began within the past couple days, would a system restore help? thanks, david.

Message I also had the same error code with the message invalid drive F when I tried to instal an updated version of acrobat reader. I tried dave`s solution of regedit. After finding all references to Adobe acrobat reader and changing the F drive notation to C in each case I found that the installation of acrobat reader went ahead without a hitch. Many thanks Dave for your most invaluable advice.

Message I was also researching the Error 1327 and decided to follow Dave's suggestion. When I couldn't find anything that seemed out of the norm, I decided to try another trick I'd learned.

In regedit, click on My Computer to highlight it, click Edit and choose Find...
In the 'Find what' box type in E:\ (or whichever letter your error is showing) and click Find next. If there is a path with the letter anywhere in your system, it will find it.

When you find it, right click on the name of the setting and choose Modify. When the modification window opens, you can change the drive letter. Once you've made the change, click OK.

Use the F3 key to search for any other paths that might have the same drive listed.

Thanx for the GREAT tip on the registry Dave!!! You are a life saver!!!

Message Hello,

I also am unable to uninstall a program (ArcGIS Workstation 9.1) because it is referencing an invalid drive (Error 1327. Invalid Drive: R:\)

I tried the Registry Editor, but a search for the false drive letter didn't turn up anything. Also, I noticed most of the drive paths are bracketed by $, and two are numbers, e.g. 0x0000001 under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Has anyone had this problem? Working in XP.

Thanks!
Nina

Message Dave's suggestion of renaming the drive letters in those two keys worked for me. My installation was ArcGIS Desktop 9.1 Evaluation Edition. I am using Windows 7. In my registry keys, I had "My Pictures" pointed to a mapped drive. Oddly enough, that mapped drive does still exist on my system, but the uninstaller would not run until I pointed these keys back to a local drive. This was very frustrating. Thanks for the fix.
